What is SSL?

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, is a cyber-security protocol that digitally encrypts information sent from a browser to a server. SSL certificates are used to protect sensitive information like credit card numbers, usernames, passwords, email addresses, and more. A website with an SSL certificate is identified using a number of trust indicators, like "https" and the padlock icon in the browser bar. Millions of online businesses use SSL certificates to secure their websites and allow their customers to place trust in them. SSL certificates are provided by Certificate Authorities (CAs), that there are many of them, such as Symantec, GeoTrust, Thawte, RapidSSL or COMODO.

Many people have a question in their mind, how much do we need to install SSL for our website?   Nowadays, web browser provider like Google, Firefox or Opera pay attention about security for the visitor who use their web browser. They have a policy that every website should install SSL, otherwise there will be the alert about "Not Secure" or other warning in theire website for the visitor.

The reasons why we need to install SSL.

Secure your precious information.

The main reason why we need to install SSL Certificate for our website is to make sure that any important information such as Username, Password or credit card information that have been sent between servers and site visitors is encrypted, and only the right destination server that can access such information.

Make more reliability for your website.

Especially websites that have online transactions, such as ecommerce website or Banking website. The SSL Certificate on these websites will increase the confidence for the visitors that they are safe to use for online transaction.

Avoid being viewed as a non-secure website.

Nowadays, every browser, Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Opera give priority for websites that install SSL on them and will be alert for visitors who open website that don't have SSL, such as "Not Secure" or "This site is not secure" in front of their site's name.
